My Tumor

My Tumor

This is the tumor that grew on the side of my head over 6 months during 2002. After multiple biopsies and seeing multiple doctors, it was finally diagnosed as an "angio-lymphiod hyperplasia with eosinophilia". Translated into lay terms, it means an "angry lump, that is growing its own vasculature and lymph tissue". Lots of people ask me what happened to it and it is actually a kind of an interesting story. My doctor to surgically remove it, but in order to do that, he was going to have to take a skin graft from another place on my body. He wanted to take the graft from my buttock, but I didn't want that for a couple of reasons. First off, the graft wouldn't have any hair, and would be in a prominent and visual place on my head. Second, who the heck wants a piece of ass on their head? I kept putting off the surgery hoping that we could come up with a better plan and you know what? The tumor went away on its own. Seriously. Over about 6 months it gradually got smaller and smaller, but was still kind of reddish purple, but over the next year even that went away. So what happened to my tumor? I dunno, maybe my brain ate it. Or maybe it wasn't a tumor after all...
